Judge’s Entry for the Dark Dreamscapes Poetry Contest
We stepped
in time
with ballroom synchronicity.

Her frame
so delicate.
Her steps so light.

Her hair cut short
to hide its loss
in her final months.

Although I dance with her
I feel she has another partner.
Invisible but there.

His chilling hand
bonier than my own.
his grin eternal.

Cancer taps
upon my shoulder
wanting to cut in.

As we dance
on the floor
in the round.

(Shout-out to Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean)
