Some smiles are all lies, to convince those around. No one looks past to see what's inside
Those that look happy might not be.
When you assume based on what you see,
You hurt them more than you think.
I hear the people around me,
Judging based on shallow things,
Deciding for those they see,
What they have a right to feel.
Well looks can be deceiving,
Eyes often cast illusions.
What is in their head, or what said,
Is usually but a fantasy.
To many that observe,
We have no right to be sad.
To some we don’t deserve to feel,
Because our lives are “so grand”.
There are many that are drowning,
Lost in a sea of feelings,
But no one ever knows this,
Because their smile is never failing.
There are those that are content,
That love the life they live.
But most refuse to notice it,
Since they don’t make a show of it.
One does not have to smile,
To look and to be happy.
And one must not be sobbing,
To show their pain is reality.
If you look hard at someone,
Past all your preconceptions,
You might notice that what you see,
Isn’t what you think.
If seeing is believing,
Then we are all doomed,
To live a very hollow life,
Judging based on looks.
All is not as it seems,
As you seem to think.
One side can be calm, collected,
While the other plummets endlessly.
For we assume based on false perceptions.
