Man and steed face the mountains
A man and his carbon fiber steed
assault the mountain and winding country roads,
grinding his way up the grueling slopes
and then speeding down the other side.

Metalic beast of burden carries him,
day after day, week after week,
rolling past breathtaking vistas
and cheering spectators in rural hamlets.

Rider maneuvers aerodynamic stallion
amid a crowd of competitors,
where the tiniest mistake
can cause pile of mangled metal,
bloody flesh, broken bones,
and splintered dreams.

The man drives his thoroughbred mount
in frantic race for treasured yellow jersey,
and tastes the thrill of victory,
as he stands upon that pedestal,

until they ask for urine sample
and discover that he cheated.
