'Forty is the old age of youth, fifty is the youth of old age.' A quote by Hosea Ballou.
Hitting forty
My body gave out on me
With a month of observation
Between community hospital
And some physical therapy

Now past fifty
Given this new lease on life
By way of a dialysis machine
And doctors telling me
All about organ transplants

Unclear at what point
I exchanged youth for old age
In little more than a ten-year window
Looking out at the sun half up and half down
On a new morning or my last goodnight
