“Have you heard the news?” Alex asked.
“Yes! I can’t believe it!” Andy said.
“Me neither! What do you think happened?”
“I don’t know everything seemed fine yesterday.”
“I know. They were acting just like they do every day.”
“I know! Though I suppose that’s not something you share with other people when it’s happening.”
“Yeah, you have a point there. It’s probably private, they probably keep hoping things will work out ...”
“Right, but then it doesn’t and you end up closing the place.”
“Closing the place?”
“Yeah, the sign says they’re closed until further notice!”
“How could Uncle Fred and Aunt Donna be closed?”
“What do Uncle Fred and Aunt Donna have to do with Baylor’s Coffee Shop?”
“What does Baylor’s have to do with anything?”
Baylor’s is closed! The sign was on the door this morning.
“No! You’re kidding! I love that place! Where are we gonna hang out now? Crap! Well, what were you talking about?”
“Uncle Fred and Aunt Donna are getting a divorce! Uncle Fred told me this morning when I went over to mow the lawn.”
Just then Andrea walked in and they both said,” “Have you heard the news?” at the same time.
“Aunt Donna and Uncle Fred are getting divorced, because Fred got caught cheating. Baylor’s is closing unexpectedly because they can’t make enough money being a hang-out place for teenagers. And our history test is being postponed till Wednesday because Mr. Grant lost his notes and he thinks one of the students took them.”
“Well I didn’t take them! Did you take them?” both boys said at once, to each other.
Andrea rolled her eyes and went to her room as she heard the boys burst out laughing. “Brothers!” she said, not for the first time.
