Determination proves insufficient to overcome exhaustion
|Take a Break
Tired eyes, reddened at the rim through rubbing,
Turn to the next note, scribble, ditty, rhyme, verse.
The marching pages, piled one on one and one,
Tallying the endless tale of mortal grind and angst,
Telling the misery, the anger, the pain,
Test the patience, try the aim to find a pearl.
Times occasional the sun bears sight
To fairyland, a reverie of colours bright
Tripping in rainbow flowers, birds of light,
Tumble in a tango with bunny and sprite,
Twists with the dragon, his friend a wight.
Then comes the urge to call it a night.
Tenacity rules the continuation,
Thrusts forward the rule of philosophy,
Theory, inspiration, opinion and homily.
Thus the finger wags, wise words wander,
Terminology bends the knee to chosen agenda.
Talk to me of earth and turn the page.
Tell me a story, take me by the hand,
Thrill me with unexpected, sudden surprise.
Trust me to follow wherever you lead,
Throw in some character, paint me a backdrop
(Tweak it to word count - don’t tax my eyes).
That’s twenty I’ve sampled, found just one gem.
Take a break, old ‘Holden,
Take a break.
