What it means to me
Just a piece of cloth

It's just a piece of cloth, a remnant of the past
Silken threads, through bloody history cast
Tapestry of honor, a soldier's narrative of glory
Woven pennant of pride, teller of a nation's story

Each fiber graced, by the immigrant's sweat and tears
Citizen's striped banner for over two hundred years
Virile are the filaments of a country's passion
Tattered legacies, sewn in freedom's fashion

Written in the stars, the tale of each man's strife
A field of starry blue promise of a better life
Fragments of hope stitched in rows of red and white
Quilted relic, sets the heart to soar as it takes flight

Through many hardships the flag remains strong
An era once witnessed with one voice lifted in song
Wavered through the tides that sought to tear us apart
Sovereign fabric of every man's cause, from the start

Ever shall there be, differences and a price to be paid
Corner-stoned virtues, on which this country was made
Diverse are the dreams, vintage canvas has embraced
Tri-colored portrait, of each struggle we've faced

By circumstance, worth of the streamer, often defined
In a land, where liberties and freedom, are unconfined
Beneath one precious banner, all privileges granted
Legacy of an enduring spirit, long ago in soil planted

It's just a piece of cloth, that I shall raise high
Commemorating yet another, Fourth of July
