Thoughts of regret

It starts as a whisper and grows to a roar

This din so deafening a sound I abhor

It wakes me at night just to even the score

These dreams so vivid playing out in my mind

All this madness about floats and from me has no fear

I know it wants me undone that is perfectly clear

Was it a thought not thought all way through

Or a word so unkind

That brings me to here this hole in my mind

This midnight clatter no sound

At least not you but to me it abounds

I hear in my head a message perhaps

If just a bit clearer these nights just may lapse

These thoughts are not weightless but seem weight so absurd

That stab at my heart and I am brought to my knees

I wished things so different but my wishes unheard

So much time spent on regret and remorse

This whisper it seems will require the last word

It’s soft voice calls to me and does begin

Then onward and upward to reach that great din

God has given me this penance to forgive my great sin.
