A matter of the heart.
Before the dawn
our breaths grow
shallow,
something in the
air tonight.

Sky-high anxiety
like dread freed
to siphon water
from the lake,
run the rivers dry.
My tongue swollen
(how ‘bout yours?)

O how I wish it
would rain down
,
dilute our tears
and loose us
from all spasm.
Head sags,
heavy like a
sledge hammer.

What it is…
is love departing
like the dark
at sunrise.
Eyes strain
to find a star
(we know they
should be there),
within a firmament
so vast and old…

O Mama,
if leaving me is
easy
, then ease
be less desired.
