Flash Fiction, Contest ENTRY. A small town with some unusual residents.
Little Town had a meager population of 4,300. Coach Johnson was having a hard time recruiting for the basketball team, then he saw Megan McCoy shooting hoops at the park and that changed everything, she was taller than any boy on the team, and had the moves. She only agreed to be on the team after he promised her something that even he wasn’t sure he could deliver.

Coach gathered the boys for a pep talk, Robbie knew the drill….

Robbie half listened to Coach until he heard Megan’s name, then he had his complete attention. She came running towards the team and everyone was clapping, then Coach got very serious and looked at each of the guys on the team and told them to be on their best behavior.

That day after practice, Coach pulled Robbie aside and explained how important Megan was to the team not sucking this year. Robbie nodded in agreement, but Coach surprised him by saying that he had a vital part to play in this.

Robbie gave him a questioning look.

Then Coach blurted out that the only way he could get her to play was getting a boy to take her to the dance.

Robbie was still trying to understand and then he got it. Robbie began waving his hands in front of him and repeating no, no, no.

Coach said, “Do it or your off the team!”

Robbie yelled, “You don’t scare me!”

Friday night, Robbie’s at Megan’s front door, he ran the doorbell.
She opened the door, and Robbie’s heart melted, not because of her beauty, but he said, “Is that a…?”

“Yes, that’s my pet Pooka.”

“Does that mean?”

“Yes, I’m from Venus. What’s the big deal, you’re from Mars, and now we’re both on earth trying to fit in.”
