We're past the mid-year hump, and the blog entries just keep on coming. Everyone seems to blogging something interesting and often educational, at least I have learned a few things. Maybe you will, too. So make sure to read this month's Editors Picks and also the new and restarted blogs in the Welcome section.
The Feature this month is for pure entertainment. In other words, it's about blog enteries that entertain. How does your blog stack up?
Keep on Bloggin'!

You may have never considered your blog to be entertainment. That term often raises thoughts of fun or amusement, probably because entertainment is suppose to be enjoyable. So, let's hope your entries are enjoyable or, at least, not the opposite to the point of disgust or unreadable. If they were the latter, you may not get many readers and fewer followers. You probably need more help than this article can give you.
Everyone wants to be entertained. It's human nature, back to the times when you'd sit around a fire listening to how the hunters stalked and captured the pterodactyl that's now roasting before you. Well, maybe you're a bit too young to remember that, but think about storytelling or just good fairy tales that you found interesting. Those relaxed you and made you feel good for a time. They were entertaining keeping you occupied so you didn't pitch stones to cause sparks in the cooking flames.
Assume that your blog is not dislikable, and you're getting occasional readers. Your entries then must have some redeeming qualities. They're coherent, make a point, and are free of most typos and annoying grammatical discord. How can you tell if it feels good reading it or leaves one feeling well after reading? Did it entertain them?
One answer may be if you get a positive comment. But you need to know before you turn the entry loose to the world. Obviously, there's using humor, but that might be an easy cheat. Perhaps the first thing to consider is looking closely at other's blogs that entertained you. What did they do that you might want to consider?
That's a lot of time and effort to read and think about stuff. Might as well take a class for credit if you have to do that, unless you're one of those that are super-intuitive. If you are, perhaps you can augment the short summary of ideas that follow.
Blog entries have the same requirements as stories - any writing actually. They need to flow. They need to engage the mind through descriptions of places, things and actions or thought provoking questions or puzzles. Remember that readers have varying degrees to which they want to be engaged, so don't go overboard unless you're after a particular type.
Yes. Journal entries of life happenings that are put in blogs can be entertaining as well. They may be even easier since their roots in our evolution can be traced back to that bird on the fire mentioned earlier. Those heavy opinions or deep subjects will need careful hooks and layman analogies to keep the reader's thoughts from loosing interest.
Then again, this is your web log meant to be for you. If it entertained you, that might be the only success necessary. But it's great to share and greater to know others found it entertaining as well. So if you read a blog entry, leave a comment and let them know that reading it was worth the time spent. That means you were entertained.
Blogs may be restricted to Upgraded Authors and higher. These entries may have a lower content rating than the overall blog.
