Life's not always pretty.
I knew a man who marched to war a soldier
Said he’d die for country and for flag
Armoured in his stories
Of battle's endless glories
He came back missing both his legs
Life’s not always pretty…
Life’s not always fair
He tries to hide, keep it all inside,
Sitting quietly in his chair.

I met a whore who wasn’t much for talking
Said it was always easier that way
She’d put her heart of gold up for auction
Sold her soul and freedom that same day
Life’s not always pretty…
Life’s not always fair,
You can cry and cry ‘til you eyes run dry
You’ll find that no one cares. “

Standing on the corner begging favours
Asking for a handout or some change
Street people come in all the flavours
Quiet as a mouse or acting very strange
Life’s not always pretty
Life’s not always fair
In your pride you avert your eyes
Pretend that they aren’t there.
