A generation lost to War.
As the wisdom of the ages
Those pages of sages forgotten lie
Stories enrage, armies engage
Soldiers earn their wages
Men, women and children die

A generation soon forgotten
In mass graves
putrid and rotten
Dark holes lined side by side
On those beds made of ground
Opened eyes stare down
At the truth buried deep inside

He sits and frowns
A rain of tears falling down
Head bowed in mourning,
He makes no sound as,
His thoughts return
Through time's haze to
Boyhood friends on summer days.

Brothers loved and lost
His heart breaking
Bleeding memories
Rimed with frost
One wise old soldier
Having paid the piper,
Quietly laments the cost
