What does the future hold for someone stuck in the guilt of their past?
Things done or not done
momentary transgressions
lapses in judgement
crimes committed
all in the past
but the fear comes on fast
looking back
hindsight clear
through those murky waters
younger you tried to steer

now as you gaze upon
with a greater sense
of right and wrong
know younger "you" is also gone
if you've owned it
then let it pass away
the past has only one place today
behind you and put away
to have a future clean and new
today's the first day
of a wiser you

Older "you" that can understand
you're not alone in this land
to err is human so it's said
those who never fall
are those already dead
accept the guilt inside your head
those anxious thoughts
that fill with dread
but realize it's o.k. instead

they're lessons to be learned
not spurned
or turned
to toxic shame
that says you're evil and to blame
that all you are is dark and bad
for that untruth will drive you mad
you're evolving in life like everyone
just learn from mistakes
then be done
to err is human and
don't be mistaken
even you deserve
to be forgiven,
not forsaken
regardless of pain
or troubles you've had
remember
it is better to do good
than just sit feeling bad
