For The Sake Of Getting Fit

The mirror, it is lying,
but the scales agree with it.
There’s really no denying
that my clothes no longer fit.
A diet? No, I simply can’t,
it has zero appeal;
I’ll have to think of something
for the crisis, it is real.
An idea begins to brew,
one that has a great big plus,
I’ll walk myself to work each day
and will not take the bus!
For several weeks it works out fine,
I’m slimmer and more toned;
that celebration’s premature
and should have been postponed.
The rain begins, it’s pouring down,
and me, I become sodden
as I make my way along a path
that now is so well trodden.
A cold soon begins to fester
and my nose begins to run
and as for all the sneezes,
well, they simply are not fun.
A few days of being bed-bound,
look now at the cost;
for all the healthy gains I made
are well and truly lost!
