A poem of 36 lines written for the Writer's Cramp 8/15/19.
'It's Good For You!'

‘Exercise! It’s good for you!’,
that’s what they always say;
but my opinion differs,
or at least it did today.
I was in swimsuit by the pool
with not a drip of water,
when my friend admonished me,
to swim I really oughta.
I shook my head and backed away,
“But swimming is such fun!”
A hand around my ankle and
the torment had begun.
I hit the water with such force
it splattered everywhere
and then I started sinking...
all that floated was my hair!
My ears were sucking it all in,
the sound completely muffled;
there was such a big commotion
as the peace became all ruffled.
An arm, it grabbed around my waist,
an oh, so welcome gift
when the grip turned more in to a hug
and I began to lift.
I coughed out water, spluttered,
for I’d very nearly drowned;
my rescuer bends over me,
my heart begins to pound;
for isn’t he so gorgeous --
but I really must confess,
I reddened from embarrassment
for I was such a mess.
Home again and dry once more,
my swimsuit is in the trash,
the pool now firmly out of bounds
since I caused such a SPLASH!
