Some people you see on the streets have a war story behind them.
There’s a man out living on the city streets
He lays his head where you put your feet
What you don’t know
You don’t understand
That man was a hero in Afghanistan

Do we walk on by, do we turn our heads?
Do we close our eyes, look away instead?
Do we tell ourselves that it’s not our place?
To reach our hands out to the human race.

There’s a girl out walking, talking to herself
I’ve never seen her talk to no one else
She drinks too much and sleeps on the floor
She’s been that way ever since the war

Well they say we won but tell me at what cost?
When you fight in a war more than lives are lost
it’s hard on hearts and it’s hard on minds
They’re both home but something’s been left behind.
