Anxiety is a trickster. Sufferers have to recall this constantly. Self-forgiveness is key.
Fear rises with the thoughts
Thoughts rise
With the opening of my eyes
Another day of secrets
Held close to my chest
Unburied though long dead
The dread
Won't let me put it all to rest
The mistakes of the past
Wounds I've inflicted
Guilt I've born
Seems to last
Greeting me every morn

How I wish I could escape
Deliver myself from shame
Self-forgiveness eludes me
I talk to the mirror and blame
It's funny how I can listen
With compassion to my brothers
But somehow always refuse myself
The peace I offer others.
