|This dump stinks, clean the damn cage. Blow flies buzzed his poop. Harry kicked the lettuce, apples, and cucumbers, the zookeeper dumped food and water when it suited. Harry gagged at mealtimes. He yanked the bars trying to escape.
The money petered out and the zoo closed. All his friends left - elephants, giraffes, monkeys, Harry cried. His record stamped "Transfer to Florida," disappeared, Harry stayed behind. Locked gates, keep out signs, and reluctant realtors kept the place closed.
Harry kicked the ball, it ricocheted toward the poop, he knabbed it and tallied the score 1-0. When the game ended, he shimmied the rope, shoved off to the opposite side, stuck his feet between the bars, wiggled his toes and run in the imaginary grass.
At night, he curled up in the sawdust and dreamed of his transfer.
Simba searched the alleys checking the trash cans. He stuffed the bag with produce, filled the water jug and headed to the zoo.
The bag and water stashed behind the gate, he climbed the fence, pulled the key from his wrist and took the food to Harry.
The lock clicked, Simba opened the door and heard the snores.
He dumped the food, poured the water, locked the door and run into the woods.
A small price to pay for freedom - feeding your former zookeeper.
