A sunflower Came Screaming
THE DOW

Dennis, give us the details.

It was bad, like a pimple
on a Jennifer that we all heard
from when it popped.

Mom?

I’m here to tell you,
that pimple was something else.
It was bad.
We battled it
with a soapy clothe
and water.
Until,
Big Joe,
stood up
with his two fingers.
And,
his idea was
to pop it.
But,
it was so greasy
that his fat fingers slipped
off
the black head.
Just before,
Don,
could get his mind
wrapped around it.

The next thing I know,
there came a knock
upon my forehead,
that felt like,
yesterday came and went
with something
I was trying to forget.
And,
we all cooked it up
and ate it.

And waited.
And waited.

And just at that moment,
something rose up
inside Cari,
and she passed it
for something we all called
‘splendor’.
And, I was so flabbergasted,
floored,
left with wanting something more;
I forgot what I was saying.
