|Linda, the housekeeper, arrived exactly at 8 am. She smiled and looked at her watch. Her rigid routine and obsession with having everything perfect, made her a much appreciated and sought after housekeeper.
It was Tuesday and Bruce, her employer, would be down for coffee in about 10 minutes, give or take a few. She prepared the coffee pot, turned it on and began to pack the dirty dishes from the sink into the dishwasher. After 10 minutes, she stopped and listened for movement upstairs, there was none, not a sound. She moved to the base of the stairs.
"Mr. Allen," she called. No response.
She climbed the stairs and called out again. No response.
The master bedroom door was closed. She stood quietly, her ear to the door and listened. She knocked.
"Mr. Allen," she called again, a little louder this time. Nothing.
She opened the door.
Bruce Allen was on the FLOOR next to his bed, his pale white face contorted and staring blankly at the ceiling. His eyes were bulging and bloodshot.
Linda let out a scream and rushed to his side. She felt for a pulse, the cold skin repulsed her and she gagged. She stood, got her phone and dialed 911.
After reporting the tragedy, Linda glanced around the room. When her eyes settled on the large, empty terrarium, she screamed again and ran from the room making sure to close the door.
When the police arrived, they wanted to TALK to Linda immediately. She recounted the events as well as her theory of how Bruce Allen had been killed.
The detective frowned, "A python you say. To get rid of the MICE. Well, that's Ironic. Okay, we'll look for it. Thank you ma'am."
