Sometimes your thoughts about a person turn bad, but that does not mean they are not good.
|What shadow has eclipsed the light
of beauty once before my sight,
what harsh and daunting scornful mind,
what image dark of person bright?
Not she, not she, whom I have found,
whose heart is good, whose mind is sound,
in whom was never cold delight
nor pleasure in my falling down.
And she that lifted up my head,
when of so many words she said,
“Peace to you. Do not descend.
Your heart is good. I’ll be your friend.”
Is splendid still, and that I will,
holding fast and pleading till
her mind remembers and she says
words that kindle, words that chill.
