A flower that opens at night rather than in the day.
|Star flower opens up within the night;
it does not bloom among the light of day.
Its petals lavender with streaks of white,
though in the darkness it appears as gray.
It drinks abundant starlight from on high,
yet when clouds form those cosmic rays will do.
Light’s energy abides in deepest sky;
enough of it will see star flower through.
When other budding plants are fast asleep,
and sun gives way to phases of the moon,
star flower has the breath of night to keep—
it savors sky where countless stars are strewn.
Despite the lack of sun it is renewed;
on nighttime’s stage star flower can be viewed.
