A recap of last night's Ottawa/Toronto game.
After naming John Tavares as team captain, the Toronto Maple Leafs kicked off their season opener last night at Scotiabank Arena against the Ottawa Senators.

The Leafs walked away with a 5-3 win over the Sens.

25 seconds into the game, though, Ottawa struck first with a goal by Brady Tkachuk.

The Leafs tied the game 2:20 into the second period with a goal by Frederik Gauthier.

Trevor Moore put the Leafs ahead 2-1 at 4:42.

Scott Sabourin tied the game at 5:51.

Then, Auston Matthews scored back-to-back goals at 8:02 and 14:50 of the second to put the Leafs ahead 4-2.

The Leafs added another goal 9:43 into the third period.

Bobby Ryan scored Ottawa's third goal at 17:45.

Ilya Mikheyev scored Toronto's third period goal.

Toronto's Tyson Barrie had two assists last night.

Ottawa's goalie, Craig Anderson stopped 42 shots in last night's game.

The Leafs head to Columbus to face the Blue Jackets tomorrow night.
