A story I wrote for Halloween.
Anaya was only fifteen when her grandfather died of cancer. Her grandfather was South African and so she had to travel to Africa with her parents and her older brother Radley, who was nineteen. Their grandmother Akachi welcomed them. They settled in and started making plans for the funeral. Anaya was an adventurous child and loved taking pictures of her surroundings. So one day, she went for a walk in the forest behind her grandma's house with Radley. She wanted to take pictures for her photo collection and so she wanted Radley to be her model. Radley got bored and wanted to explore the forest a little further.
"Grandma said we shouldn't go deeper into the forest," Anaya said nervously

"Don't be such a baby," Radley said, teasing, "There's nothing in this forest. Even if there was, I came prepared."

He showed her a dagger

"See? There's nothing to be scared of. Now come on,"

Anaya was hesitant but gave in to the pressure.

"Alright, fine," Anaya said "Let's go."

Radley and Anaya walked into the forest and all they could hear was the sound of the leaves rustling under their feet. Anaya kept looking over her shoulder for fear that something might be behind her. They walked until they found a lake in the middle of the forest. Exhausted, Radley took a seat on a rock next to the lake and Anaya took her camera and took pictures. She had enough pictures for her photo collection and wanted to go home. Since there wasn't anything to do, Radley agreed and decided to go. They weren't too far from the lake when they heard a loud growl coming from the lake.
