A 32 line poem written for the Taboo Words contest, October 2019.
By Knife, Brought To Life

With a jagged toothed smile,
I'll assume the watch;
for evils' approach,
is my intent to scotch.

With a sullen red glow,
and a shine that's so dim,
My triangular eyes
will hunt for the grim.

They'll approach in shadows,
the ones that do dare,
but as they get nearer
my candles will flare.

What was once yellow
now forges ahead
as demons so caught up
are then filled with dread

Those devilish ones
who intended much harm
my countenance leers
and will them so alarm

that with a raw scream
which speaks of their fright,
they'll turn to retreat
from such gruesome a sight.

I'll watch over the windows,
the doors I will block
for those which are stealthy
will meet with a shock.

My malevolent grin
that you carved with a knife
will vanquish the monsters
that threaten your life.
