Honoring the Dead Contest Entry October 2019
His eyes were the blue of the brightest day
Sandy blond hair kept shaggy and long
Tough as the leather jacket he wore
To me he was as flowers in May
We were teenagers in love
The cliche so beautifully true
Together forever he swore
Time flew on the wings of our passion
Until one day an argument grew
So many years ago it is history
From the angst of the young
The cause of the discontent
Long forgotten in a crowded memory
Just something so trite and small
It would have been forgiven and forgotten
When next we saw each other
But twas not to be, this young emotion
He was killed before forgiving could be done
Life, love, eyes of blue no more
He is gone, he is no one
Never walk away angry from those you love
You never want to pay that cost
Always let them see your deepest heart
Not the trivial little everyday things
That can break your love apart
A reminder from a young man lost
