These are the lines from the Christmas card I sent out in 1991.
Early Morning, Peace on Earth
*XMasTree* *CandyCaneR* *XMasTree* *CandyCaneR* *XMasTree* *CandyCaneR* *XMasTree*

Christmas morning
before presents, turkey, laughter,
even before coffee,
in the darkness before dawn
the fireplace seems unable to hold

the glow of the coals,
embers spilling bright copper warmth
across the hearth,
highlighting the waiting gifts and
glimmering onto the unlit

Christmas tree --
tinsel catching and reflecting the
gentle radiance -- twirling and twinkling
in anticipation.
The cat stirs and stretches,

looks about curiously,
notices something different
this morning --
newborn though ancient,
mystical, solemn, and sublime.

This quiet moment,
this wee quivering of
happiness and hope,
this sedate and solemn
glow of peace on earth,

May it be yours this day,
this Christmas
