Waking a beast.
Octoberfest DDPC Round 34 Week 3 Prompt 10/17-10/24

Born a giant among mortals,
magic from a bespelling witch,
brings a beast from a dark portal.

Servants await his cruel pitch
with their sharpened minds and dull knives
magic from a bespelling witch.

Knives flash and blood pours from their lives,
dancing unto death filled with glee
with their sharpened minds and dull knives.

Come take a closer look and see
and perhaps join these enlightened,
dancing unto death filled with glee.

Dark blood flows down faces frightened.
Some living sacrifices wail
and perhaps join these enlightened.

Born a giant among mortals.
A dire spell that can never fail
brings a beast from a dark portal.
Some living sacrifices wail.

Structure: each line has 8 syllables.

The Terzanelle is a poetry type which is a combination of the villanelle and the terza rima forms. It is a 19-line poem consisting of five interlocking triplets/tercets plus a concluding quatrain in which the first and third lines of the first triplet appear as refrains. The middle line of each triplet is repeated, reappearing as the last line of the succeeding triplet with the exception of the center line of the next-to-the-last stanza which appears in the quatrain.
