Regrets and truths I can forgive but can't forget.

Everything that I’ve accomplished
Is shadowed with regret
Every good time I remember
Has bad I can’t forget
You could tell that I was frightened
When I acted brave
Piece by piece I’ve scattered
There’s not much left to save
It’s cold out on the border
Between my mind and soul
Jealously I’ve guarded
The bits I could control
I think that I am master
Though I wear the ball and chain
Just another bastard
That no one wants to claim
My father was a hero
For I don’t like the truth
He didn’t mean to hurt us
It was just his shattered youth
My mother said she loved him
But hated him as well
I picture them in heaven
Giving each other hell
