Flash Fiction
One Day

“Which witch do you want next to the windows, Penny?” Wendell yelled over.

“Ah, put the pink one next to the pumpkins and the pale one next to the patio,” Penny hollered back.

They both turned at a snicker from the side of the room. “What?” Wendell asked.

“You two always do that!”

“We do what?”

“Wendell, you fill your sentences with W words and Penny fills hers with P words.”

“Pffft, please!” Penny sniffed.

“What are you talking about?” Wendell asked.

“Penny please, Wendell what... do you see? You two always do that stuff.”

“We wouldn’t! Well... I mean... do we?”

“All the time.”

“Perhaps it’s unconscious?” Penny asked, “I don’t think it’s on purpose. Oh, darn there I go again!”

“I wonder if everybody does it?” Wendell asked.

“I don’t think so. I always notice it with you two, probably because I see you so much.”

“Well, you don’t really see anybody else much, do you?” Penny asked, trying to be tactful.

“What do you mean? I see lots of people!”

“Well, yeah, but only on Halloween when the trick or treaters come to our house.”

“Yeah, so?”

“Well. There are three hundred and sixty-four other days in our year...”

“What???? Well, where am I all that time???”

“You’re put away with the rest of the Halloween decorations.”

“I’m a decoration?”

“Yes, but you’re the best decoration! You’re our monster!”

“I’m a monster?! Suddenly, I feel so sick.”

“That’s funny!”

“Why?”

“Because your name is Skelator!”
