howl

——————- * ——————-

tonight the blood moon shimmers
high in the arctic sky
far north of the taiga belt
she calls

growling lusty harmony
clear through the boreal
across the frozen tundra
we bound

turning back the hands of time
days when souls ran free
age in dog years, worth the price
matter of degree
though we’re haunted by your crimes
still no one believes
slip quietly ‘twixt the lines
escape into dreams

when the snow forest beckons
late in the witching hour
lifting voices to the stars
we come

leaving our pale skins behind
donning our fur and fang
chasing down the northern lights
we howl
