A fitting setting for a sad departure. Written for the Writer's Cramp prompt, 11/6/19.
November Road
The time has come,
it breaks my heart,
but now I simply
must depart.
A tear, it runs
straight down my cheek,
I cannot waver,
can't be weak.
The sky is grey,
with heavy cloud
I won't look back,
I'm much too proud.
I can't forgive
so much deception,
I failed so badly
with perception.
I should have known,
should have felt
that crushing blow
before t'was dealt.
Instead the shock,
it sent me reeling,
strangled by
the depth of feeling.
I tried to act,
to just pretend
that things had not
just got to end;
but there it stayed
that haunting thought,
a ghostly scene
where all was caught.
November road,
a fitting place
to walk along,
flee your disgrace.
