|Despite getting a too many men penalty at 18:39 of the third period, the Toronto Maple Leafs managed to win 2-1 over the Vegas Golden Knights, thanks to their captain, John Tavares.
"I thought it was a good game," said Leaf's coach, Mike Babcock after the game.
"I thought we were better in the first period and I thought they, (Vegas), were better in the second," said Babcock.
There was no scoring until the third period.
Max Pacioretty opened the scoring for Vegas at 4:08 of the third.
Auston Matthews tied the game at 8:14 on the power play.
2:33 into overtime, Tavares scored the winner after receiving a wonderful pass by Mitch Marner.
Tavares had two points last night.
Toronto's goalie, Frederik Andersen, was terrific in net, stopping 37 shots.
Vegas's goalie, Malcolm Subban, was equally good, stopping 35 shots.
Toronto hosts the Philadelphia Flyers tomorrow night.
