——————- * ——————-

out walkin’ ‘long the midnight quay
yeah, it’s way too hot for sleep
storm clouds holdin’ their last exhale
like there might be no tomorrow
water lappin’ the crumblin’ shore
mirrors sweat runnin’ down m’eyes
strange how we always chase the light
when we can’t outrun our shadows

‘round the bend, like she’s waitin’ all night
sheer sultry dress, red spike heal shoes
“Hey,” she coos, “who’s my sailor baby?”
“Yo,” I shrug, “who’s up for some blues?”
“Tell me ,” she flirts, “you think I’m pretty?”
I nod, “Pain is such haunting thing.”
she takes my hand and we stroll together
down to the waterfront saloons

tribal drums layin’ ghostly backbeat
emotions flyin’ from the stage
how can so much soul squeeze through one lil’ sax
sends chills runnin’ in my marrow
dancin’ an ancient voodoo rite
hips snakin’ ‘round the floor like sex
she whispers somethin’ deep in my ear
like a promise of tomorrow

on the street, full moon hangin’ low
driftin’ ‘bout in each others lee
she asks, “Babe, when you comin’ back this way?”
I smile, “When you goin’ home with me?”
night blossom scents waft on the breeze
as couples head their separate ways
we hold each other and kiss goodnight
down by the waterfront saloons
