Carols loved, carefully picked, but don't play one on the 26th 4 a 24-hr-contest b-nice ;) |
Christmas Music Here Today, Gone Tomorrow Christmas songs are in the air, You hear them nearly everywhere, Traditional beats and rhyming words, Yuletide makes us music nerds. Over and over the same old songs, To keep your sanity, hum along, Most retail workers tune it out, While throngs of shoppers mill about. People prefer the classic hits, Variations are often, well... the pits. Still, every singer tries variations, They're played on every FM station. Wise ones pick their own best songs, Tunes to which they sing along, Don't trust your hymns to FM elves, Carols deluxe? You pick yourselves. Most today have digital means, Songs from phones tucked in their jeans, Then there are those old folks like me, With records, cassettes and yes, CDs. I dust and play them once a year, Filling our house with Yuletide cheer, Until the presents have been unwrapped And Christmas patience has been sapped. At midnight then on Christmas day, Nary a carol will stations play. Santa's back at the 'ol North Pole, And we're all back to Rock 'n' Roll. |
