I wrote this for a former partner, expressing my desire to show them more of who I was.
|Had I the confidence to stand undressed
Like a new flower rising to your smile;
Like a flower blooming its open breast,
Awaiting compliments and trials.
Then I would grow into your golden light
Like a new flower growing in the sun;
Like a great flower worthy of your sight --
To be plucked, trimmed, and loved.
But I’m not confident enough to leave my roots
And bloom above the taller flowers --
The taller, fairer flowers asking you
To pick them from the earth. Were I a flower…
Then could I be a wreath around your head
Or fresh-plucked petals flung across your bed?
