I wrote this villanelle about the difficulty of leaving someone you love.
Rise, Colossus, and meet me at my task
Of killing gods. I’ve dragged them through their blood
And murdered Love with arrows in my heart.

I choked Music and buried all his art.
I drove great flaming steeds into the mud.
Rise, Colossus, and meet me at my task.

Destroy that man who holds two worlds apart
And let heaven come down in thunderous floods.
Go murder Love with arrows in your heart.

Then drown Wisdom, for nothing she imparts
Will bring us peace when all is said and done.
Rise, Colossus, and meet me at my task.

Let passion spill like evil from a jar
And cover men in darkness. One by one
They’ll murder Love with arrows in their hearts.

Walk naked through the world with scars unmasked
As monuments to everything we loved.
Rise, Colossus, and meet me at my task
Of killing gods with arrows in my heart.
