Novana only wants one thing.
Novana pushed her way through the crowds. It seemed like every galactic marketplace was worse than the last!
“This one seems to be an entire city,” she told herself wryly.
She was sure she would find what she was searching for, as it was the last and biggest of its kind in the known universe.
“All I have to do is find the fence known as Cadricol. He specializes in what I want,” Novana reminded herself.
After some questioning and not a little wandering, she found him. The leathery old lizard only had one eye, but it was so large that took over half his face.
“I understand your prices are steep, but I must have a Rubicon star ,” Novana insisted, jingling her purse.
“Don’t want none of that filthy lucre! You don’t know where it’s been!” Cadricol rasped.
“Name it!” she cried.
When he did, she didn’t hesitate. With her thumbs, she pushed out her eyes and handed them over. In return, he passed her a red constellation.
Carefully, Novana broke it in two pieces, inserting one in each eye socket. Turning, she left his stall by the back way.
“Now for the mountain !” she said.
Without thought, she pushed onward until she reached the crystalline massif. Setting her jaw, Novana began to climb. Upon reaching the top, she threw back her head and scanned the universes with her new eyes.
“Surely the wars are over and rebellion has ceased. I must be able to return home from exile after all these eons,” she whispered.
As she scanned, her gaze stopped. Ruby tears began to fall down her cheeks.
“It’s gone! Stellarania is no more! I’m too late!”
With a heavy heart, Novana became a wandering healer throughout the galaxies, forever seeking without finding, her lost heart’s desire.
