True Conversation with a client over breakfast.
Rodney was one of my favorite clients and I was rather glad most of the staff were intimidated or scared to work with him. It meant I was assigned to him regularly. He was 28. He was six foot two and just shy of three hundred pounds. Rodney was diagnosed with schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, and moderate mental retardation. He was able to attend and graduate high school. However, because of his behaviors and mental issues, he could no longer live at home and had to be placed in a group home that offered 24-hour care.

I was in his kitchen flipping applejack pancakes, his favorite when he entered the kitchen and started pouring himself a glass of milk. After I greeted him he stood next to me a few moments, sipping his milk and watching me cook.

"How many pancakes do you want this morning?" I asked.

"Shhhh!" he said as he placed a finger to his lips shushing me. He glanced all over the room as if searching for something. "They have spies everywhere."

"Who does?" I asked while focusing on the pancakes. He leaned closer to me and whispered.

"They can hear everything. They know what you are doing."

"Do they like what I'm doing?"

"Uhuh, they will come to get the secret."

"Who will come, Rodney? What will they want?"

"They want the recipe. They won't stop til they get it."

"What recipe?" I asked as I poured more batter into the skillet.

"They will come and take all the pancakes!"

"Who will come and take all the pancakes?" He rolls his eyes at me as if only an idiot would ask such a thing. He looked all around again, ensuring no one else was around.

"The Russians. They will come, they will take the pancakes." I handed him a plate of pancakes and he took them to the table and sat down.

"Will you protect me if they come?" I asked as I sat down at the table with him. He looked at me, with solemn big brown eyes and slowly shook his head.

"Probably not."

"Then I think we had better eat up all the pancakes so they will have no reason to come here." He nodded and began to eat his pancakes.

Nothing more was said about the Russians coming to steal the recipe for applejack pancakes.
