Out of the Fog Contest Entry January 2020
One night I fell asleep while meditating. Usually when this happens I wind up having a wonderfully peaceful sleep, but not this time. This time I had a very strange dream.

At first I found myself in a small room. As I turned to look for a door everything went black, dark as a starless sky, not a spot of light anywhere. I called out, my voice sounded far away, I received no answer. I stepped forward and fell through the floor landing on a bright pale green mesh that bowed with my weight. The glowing mesh provided light that did nothing to penetrate the surrounding darkness. The middle of the mesh sank lower and lower under my butt until I burst through.

The air whooshed by with the speed of my fall. The mesh had vanished and again I was in total darkness.

Then lights started to appear, tiny lights of every color. I fell through them. I knew they were souls, not sure how I knew this, but I did. I felt as if in a crowded elevator. They seemed unconcerned as I fell through their midst. More and more lights flew past. Soon there were so many lights there were only spots of darkness.

That would be when my dog barked, she thinks she is my alarm clock, and woke me up.

I didn't get to finish the dream but it did give me some clarity. There are many different religions out there with many different versions of the afterlife. I have no idea which is true and which isn't, but, I do know that there is an afterlife.
