A dark poem inspired by "Annabelle Lee"
Version One:
That one drop from the Crystal Shore
The one drop that killed my little girl
My child dying so young, so pure
The memories flitting away in a swirl

I dig through the sand but I’m getting nowhere
I try and I cry as I breach the surface
My lungs screaming as I gasp for fresh air
As I look around, I question my purpose

I stare out the window, the sky growing dark
I’m out of my mind. I’m trapped in my head
I stare at the ground, I stare at the mark
As the sky opens, my heart fils with lead

Version Two:
That one time at the Crystal Shore
That one time killed my little girl
My child dying so young, so pure
The memories flitting away in a swirl

Time seems to stop as I imagine her cry
I turn and I stare at the source
The ghost-noise in the hall, a strange lullaby
As fate seems to change its course

I stare out the window, the sky, growing dark
I’m out of my mind. I’m trapped in my head
I stare at the ground, I stare at the mark
As the door opens, my heart fills with dread
