| Poetry is in a vast array of everyday things in our lives that we aren't even aware of. Rhyming slogans and jingles have been in the airwaves for most of our lives. They remain in our heads like music to our ears. We hear them on television, and over the radio in the mornings when we all wake up, and throughout the day. As Children we woke up for school with rhyming slogans playing on our alarm clocks. As adults we hear them on commercial breaks on our car radios as we commute back and forth to our jobs. You can't escape the catchy phrases as they lure us to buy products, and help us decide, and coax us towards candidates who we are going to vote for. But by far the jingles, and the slogans that rhyme really stick with us best for the longest time.
When the election time rolls around again, and gets near the rhyming slogans and jingles pick up for all of the political hopefuls. The 34th president of the United States, and war hero Dwight D. Eisenhower was helped along into office with sporty campaign buttons reading - "I Like Ike". An extremely short but sweet saying, however it was extremely effective, and certainly helped get him elected into office. A local politician by the name of Lewis Collins won the election that he was running in with the saying - "Vote for Lewis, he won't screw us".
Rhyming slogans and jingles have invaded every single corner of our industries in an attempt to win us over, and get us to buy their products. These catchy slogans and jingles highly influence us on what we are going to spend our hard earned money on. Fast food restaurants have gotten our attention with catchy phrases like - "Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders won't upset us, all we ask is that you let us serve it your way". Cigarette companies have reeled us in to the addictive habit of smoking with jingles like - "Winston taste good, like a cigarette should". To light up all of those cigarettes the Bic lighter company came up with the rhyming slogan - "Flick your Bic". Automobile companies have put us behind the wheel of their cars with sayings like - "See the USA in your Chevrolet". In the plumbing business one company has the slogan - "Roto-Rooter that's the name, and away go troubles down the drain". Radio Caroline is constantly blasting across the air waves the jingle - "The station of the nation". the Haig whiskey company has their loyal drinkers humming - "Don't be vague - ask for Haig". In the field of medicine just about everybody has heard Alka Selizer's rhyming slogan - "Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is". Some smart folks at Golden Flake potato chips came up with the catchy slogan - "For goodness sake, eat Golden Flake". The old Trans World Airways company or TWA use to fill up their passenger seats with jingle - "Up, up and away with TWA".
