Two very different lovers share the day.
Heart Day

Gooley was anxious. It was the big day. He was going to tell the one he loved how he felt.

“This is a day for love tokens. Ones you make are the best, that’s what my mom said.”

He went to his stash and picked the perfect heart . He had a few to choose from.

Gooley went out to his garden. The roses were beautiful!

“Perfect!” he said as he picked some.

Going back in, he set the withered flowers in swamp water.

“Now, the card !”

Back at his stash, he picked the perfect sheet of skin. Stabbing his finger with the nib of his quill, Gooley began to write on it in his blood.

Roses are black and swampy,
My love is too.
My hearts beat only for you.
With this card, I declare my love
Please be mine.

“Not bad,” he said as he blew on the writing to dry it.

Taking a dagger from his drawer, he poked it through the poem and into the dried human heart. Then he put the roses inside. Standing back, Gooley admired it.

“I hope she likes it! She should be there now.”

When he arrived, Gooley had to fight crowds. It seemed like everyone was there! If they weren’t having blood shakes and pancreas burgers, they were buying candied guts.

He saw a purple hand waving. He smiled slightly to keep his lips on, as he might be getting smooches. Gooley pushed through.

Booley was popping her hand back into her wrist when he got there. Hiding his gift, he sat.

“Happy Heart Day, I made them myself,” Booley said, handing him a jar of honeyed eyeballs.

“This is for you!”

“It’s beautiful!” his love said as she ate the roses. Gooley stretched across to steal a kiss.
