An acrostic plus adventure.
|“Dad, here comes a really big wave!”
Stone Beach, Bar Harbor, Maine,
The inquisitive 4 year old daughter and me,
Out on another epic family adventure,
North Atlantic’s water is chilly,
Even on the hottest summer’s day.
Braving frozen toes, we waded out,
Easing into the towering waves,
Although I am not much of a swimmer.
Chest high on her and to my knees;
Hands clasp firmly, we enjoy the experience.
We wanted to say we swam in the sea.
I considered our wading and wandering
The ocean’s edge and shell strewn beach,
Highlights of a successful water sport.
Earlier we had read signs warning of undertow,
Merely noting that we were not going too far out
Into the high waves and frigid liquid.
Little Emily said, “dad, here comes a big wave!”
You never know strength until you fear
The whitecap breaking over your head
Will wash away your child if you lose grip of her hands!
