A freeverse poem about aimlessly wandering into the city. |
| Coworkers instruct me to have fun the weekend I leave for the bigger town I run to catch the next train so I won’t be late While an old man sits on the bench and patiently waits for the next one At the mall, foot traffic circles around the attractions There’s a little girl falling in love with a dog at the pet store Hungry I walk into a restaurant and down a plate of dumplings Next to me, a couple quietly enjoy a date of ramen and water I go to the next store searching for an object that I didn’t know I wanted A group of students released from school passes me to go get new trading cards In the next store, I treat myself to what I’ve been needing Back at the station, it begins to pour I run into the gas station drenched in need of an umbrella I see a garden soaking up the water I go back to my room and toss my stuff into the closet I hear my neighbors play loud music and laugh in the next room I tune into my virtual screen and sleep for the night I'll try again tomorrow and have a great day |
