About a foreign exchange student from China.

Chan is a Chinese exchange student that lives with Mike his Fatherly friend. They live somewhere in Tennessee. Mike is also an English teacher and has been trying to teach Chan English.

I can’t read this,” said Chan disappointingly.

“Can you at least read one or two words in it?” asked Mike.

“Well, I can understand you when you talk,” said Chan a little upset.

“That’s alright, you’ll get this someday. I’ll help you read the sentence. It says, I like to read,” said Mike.

“Well, I knew the word I and read,” said Chan.

“That’s great, then we’re showing progress!” said Mike.

Mike kept giving sentences in English for Chan to read. Chan was a top student in his class for being able to read English. Chan tried to read another sentence but still struggled.

“It says, I like the...blue?” said Chan.

“I like the color of blue. You’re doing really well! Just keep trying,” said Mike.

“I like blue, dogs and reading,” said Chan happily.

“That’s it! See? You completely got it right! Way to go!” said Mike excitedly.

Mike kept continuing to give English lessons to Chan. Chan became so good at it he wrote a short story! Mike was so impressed, he contacted a few publishers. Before Chan finally went back to his own country, a publisher published his story. When Chan showed his teacher his published short story in his own country, he got an A+ for his class.
