The world was so different just a short time ago
Grocery stores are anxious places
toilet paper, it's now like gold
shelves are sometimes empty
of things they used to hold

Visiting a restaurant, shopping at a mall
are now unallowed things
I took for granted the small joy
these outings can bring

Hugging a friend
talking face to face
are some of the things
that you can't replace

Yet these are frozen
we keep to ourselves instead
to keep others safe
to help stop the spread

This is so strange
freedom is so frail
a virus holds us hostage
but healing will prevail.
