my favorite alcoholic drink.
quarter glass of tequila,
some orange juice,
splash of grenadine
stirred
not shaken.

heaven in a glass!

learned to make 'em
good and strong
when I was in germany,
playing soldier-blue
long ago
when I was younger;
some short-timer
taught me,
as his way
of breaking in
a fucking new guy.

from then on
every payday
I'd go to the class six store
in that kasern,
buy a bottle of tequila,
some grenadine,
then to the commissary
for orange juice,
and proceed
to get good and schnockered..

it helped.

sometimes
to this very day
I get the fixings,
make my wife and I
strong sunrises,
remembering germany,
toasting
the eighteen year old
soldier-blue
who died
so very long ago,
only to be remade
into this fat old man.

raus!
