Abby decides she doesn't want to be a part of the march anymore.
Abby was exhausted when they laid down for the night. She practically collapsed into the grass, watching the others set up tents and sleeping bags. They had snuck into a local park, which was technically illegal, but she decided it was worth it. It was only then that she contemplated what was going on.
She was so far from home now, alone with complete strangers, following them blindly. She rolled over onto her side, watching as the red-eyed man made his rounds, watching each of them as they fell asleep. She closed her eyes as he passed, making sure he didn’t stop to watch her. She was terrified of him, and yet she was following him. Suddenly he laughed, a deep, haunting laugh that buried itself deep into her soul. Was she insane? How could she allow herself to follow someone who scared her so much? Was the journey so important to her?
It was all too much at that moment. Surely she could just leave. Hitchhiking back home would be a safer alternative to this. She stood up, quietly. The man in the robe looked at her immediately, as if he knew to be watching her this entire time. That she wasn’t really a part of his march. Now she was really in trouble. She had his attention.

Lyrics

Guarding yourself from the love of another
Left you with nothing tonight
Why does it sound like the devil is laughing
Leaving me haunted tonight
You did decide
Now I want you when you're done
And now it's like you're holding something
Just in front of me
Well then I can't allow this to become another
One of those times when I'm left in the cold, dead
There's no compromise
Just another tie
I know I need to sever
Guarding yourself from the love of another
Left you with nothing tonight
Why does it sound like the devil is laughing
Leaving me haunted tonight
You did decide
Ever haunted by the trappings of this life
Sweet redemption just in front of me
Well now it seems once again that I've lost another
One of the one's that have broke through the wall, damned
Fate won't compromise
I have sold my soul
And now the devil's laughing
You did decide
You were bold and strong
And ready to begin your life
All for nothing
You were sacrificed
You begin alone
And so it will be when you die
All for nothing
Will you be remembered
You did decide
Guarding yourself from the love of another
Left you with nothing tonight
So now you know why the devil is laughing
He left you with nothing tonight
You did decide
